EMEC, RIETI

Territory

The EMEC mission cannot prescind from its territory, whose nature has a special place in company's DNA. The city of Rieti, established at the beginning of the Iron Age with the name of ‘Reate’, lies indeed in an area particularly rich in water, bordering with a plain that had been occupied by a lake named 'Velino' until the times of Romans. A river of the same name still flows through Rieti and, since the time the plain was reclaimed by the Romans, has produced Marmore’s Falls, one of the tallest man-made waterfalls in Europe.

Near Rieti, Cottorella Springs provide a mineral water especially pure, while in Cotilia a mineral spa has been frequented since Roman times. Furthermore, in the province of Rieti there are the springs of Peschiera and the aqueduct of the same name, which supplies 85 percent of all the water consumed in Rome and it is considered one of the biggest in the world in transportation of spring waters. Lastly, in the northern part of Rieti’s plain, Santa Susanna spring is one of the biggest in Europe thanks to its outstanding flow rate of 5,000 litres per second.

THIS IS THE SPECIAL BACKGROUND WHERE EMEC WAS BORN AND KEEPS GROWING.

Responsibility

EMEC AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Among the cardinal points guiding our continual evolution, the respect of territory and the respect of environment are therefore on a leading place. As a consequence the awareness of impact caused by human activities has brought to an idea of sustainable development and to the challenge of letting next generations inherit the opportunity to keep satisfying their own needs. The responsibility of offering high quality products is for EMEC as important as that of facing such inheritance. From this perspective, issues like those regarding energy, resources and emission cannot be eluded and can be faced only keeping itself up to date.

To reduce environmental impact of its processes, EMEC has assumed an Environmental Management System compliant with the international standard UNI EN ISO 14001 and certified by external and independent entities. The aim is to guarantee our environmental policy is suitable for the impact of our activities and able, at the same time, to monitor and measure such impact taking into account the most recent regulations.

Our objectives concern the reduction of harmful air emission, rationalizing of water, energy and gas consumption, the reduction of waste production and a suitable treatment of noxious chemicals. Therefore, along with recovering of packaging and materials like paper and metal, we pay particular attention in monitoring of our plants in terms of atmospheric emissions, noise pollution, dust pollution, contamination of soil and sewers, and qualified specialists regularly examine such data to verify the compliance with the limits provided for by different legislations.

Regarding energy efficiency, our policy aims at a substantial saving in electricity and gas consumptions, for example with automatic switches and a smart air-conditioning system, but also at self-sufficiency through renewable energy like the solar one, with the consequence of a reduction in CO2 emission.
